4 Reasons To Outsource IT To Ukraine In 2014

Do you know that Ukraine is the fourth country with the largest number of IT developers in the world with over 30,000 IT specialists? This fact was confirmed by the research of Ukrainian Hi-Tech Initiative. That figure is a fourfold increase from 2010. Now it is even bigger!

1. Skilled professionals

More than 16000 high-skilled IT specialists graduate from Ukrainian universities yearly. Approximately 25 percent are hired by local IT companies; others get to work for foreign companies. The biggest cities in Ukraine are also the biggest IT development centers, main of them being Kyiv, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Lviv, and, of course — Odessa. Many IT professionals are fluent with foreign languages, as corporate culture nurtures the trend.

2. Immense industry growth

Ukraine has been realizing its tremendous outsourcing potential – a 2012 Financial Times report showed over $1 billion earned in the IT services export industry. The report also highlights a yearly raise of 30-40% in the earnings. Neighboring European countries like Romania, Hungary, and Poland are getting just about half of that. Ukraine has a powerful pool of well-educated high-profile professionals across the IT spheres – computing, engineering, programming, and more.

3. Tax-relief

A government initiative, aimed at boosting IT industry provided Ukrainian software developers with considerable tax relief, capping the added value tax at just 5 percent. The measure will continue throughout 2023. The same conditions now apply to system administration, operating systems, websites, online services and others. Nowadays Ukraine has nearly 1,000 outsourcing companies which employees are working for such well-known powerful corporations like Microsoft, EBay, IBM, Cisco and HP. Now a few years out of «terra incognita», Ukraine grows its potential, making its way higher into the global outsourcing top-10.

4. Strategic location

Ukraine’s strategic time zone location makes it very accessible for Northern American and European companies. The little time difference advantages are added by little to no cultural difference – it’s crucial for effective communication. Most of Ukrainian project managers speak English, German, Russian and other languages, and exercise top-notch business practices.
